Filipino Immigration To Canada Growing At Rapid Pace

Canada, despite being known as a country of bitterly cold weather, is a country of choice among many Filipinos – both professional and skilled workers alike. Filipinos’ immigration to Canada has become a favorite topic nowadays among most of working age Filipino women and men, both in the Philippines and also those who were already working outside of the country.

And why has immigration to Canada a hot topic? Foremost in the minds of the average Filipino is their economy, which could not satisfy to employ the ever growing population of work ready adults year after year. Specially for those who had a taste of “going abroad” – coming back to the Philippines to work is not an option, that’s why immigration to Canada comes to mind first.

Philippine statistics show that there are 700,000 new graduates yearly in the Philippines and this young people have nowhere to find a suitable employment after graduation. Many of them would work in call center agencies, many more will find temporary employment abroad but majority are thinking about immigration to Canada as their passport to a better future.

Immigration to Canada, unlike working in other countries like Saudi Arabia or Singapore or Hong Kong, gives them the chance to become a resident and then after completing certain residency requirement, become citizens of Canada.

One need only look in the classified advertising in Philippine newspapers both in the Philippines and abroad where there are great number of concentration of Filipino nationals how hot immigration to Canada really is – numerous immigration consultants and immigration lawyers advertising spots keep coming up, offering help in finding jobs or processing of immigration application papers.

Canadian provinces, in their own ways also help prop-up interest in immigration to Canada by offering seminars to both immigration consultants and lawyers and employers who are willing to recruit workers both temporary and permanent thru their provincial nominee programs.

Indeed immigration to Canada have eclipsed the former first choice of Filipinos wanting to live abroad – the U.S.A. Stricter immigration regulations in the U.S. have prompted highly skilled Filipino professionals to shun America and instead opted immigration to Canada.

Strict immigration rules is not the only reason immigration to Canada is a choice for many working Filipinos. Canada’s universal health care and top notch public education – which are both free – is another reason for this change of heart.

At present, Filipinos make up the third largest source of immigrants in Canada, next to the Chinese and Indians. And it keeps growing year after year after year. Truly, immigration to Canada is embraced by many Filipinos as their chance at a better life.

Are you getting ready to join the immigration to Canada bandwagon?

As a CANADIAN, Please go home or better yet do not come here as you are not welcome. As you say in your island “BAWAL ANG PUMASUK DITO”. We dont want you here. Stay where you are and improve your own island. Maybe go work in the middle east. You bring us nothing desirable. I dont want to see you on our streets. Ehhhh!?!?

Filipinos are always welcome in Canada. I’m not Filipino, but as a first generation Proud Canadian, I’d like to welcome your people into our Canadian family.
Trust me, this is the land of opportunity, don’t let someone on welfare discourage you:

Finally, Mr C Strickland is NOT even a Canadian; he’s an American right-wing immigrant basher who posts nonsense on rightwing US sites. Don’t worry about his BS !

    Hey,
I understand that people are in tough situations in their home countries, but people are in hard situations here too. There is poverty, and job loss etc… yes, it may not be as severe as it is in other countries, but we still have problems in Canada. If you want to make a better life for your self by moving to canada,i get it, i understand, but please do everyone a favor and learn how to speak english! if you already can that’s great, but perfect it, and it wouldn’t hurt to learn french either. I am not trying to be rude, it’s just that honestly, if you want to make a better life for your self, you will not get anywhere if you cannot speak proper english. I am not trying to be racist either, but a thick accent does hold you back. Also if you are moving to Canada, DO NOT MOVE TO MAJOR CITIES! move somewhere that is not as populated. For example if you have a medical degree from another country, you will NEVER get a job in medicine in any major cities (ex. Toronto, Montreal, Quebec…). Try moving north, because the truth is, if you move up north, you get paid more, and it is easier to get a job of your choice. Large cities in canada are already overpopulated, sorry. The hard truth though, is that most people don’t want you to move here because the best part about canada is the fact that some of the stereotypes are true (im not talking for all canadians), but where i come from, we love hockey, and cold weather, and snow, and we do say eh (at least i do), so if you don’t like it don’t come! If you want to come, and you enjoy cold weather and snow etc… then we will welcome you with open arms, but don’t come here and change us, because we like our culture, and our lives, and we don’t want them to change. If it is that bad in your country, don’t come here and complain about ours. I am not speaking to all immigrants, it is just my personal opinion.

    Hi,

Is there any possible that I can sponsor my sister who is over 18 years old?
Yes, I do still have my parents but I don’t want them to come and live here because they are over 60′s. There’s a lot of reason “Why” I don’t want them to live here. Off course I do love them but I don’t want them to feel uncomfortable here.
    Anyways,
My status here is I’ve been married to a very wonderful Canadian guy for over 5 years with no kids no family. The rest of my family is in the Philippines.

    Have a wonderful day!

A new employee was anxious to get a job where I work. I had a conversation about the delicate economy in Canada in general and the policies where I work with a casual employee of about 3 weeks. She accused me of being racist because I mentioned the high rate of immigration of Indians, Chinese & Filipinos – and also the population growth of these area. This is a general fact. She misinterpreted this. I have been at the site for 20+ years. Now I feel threatened. I am 3rd generation Canadian.

Why are there so many imagrants moving to canada???? it is hard enough to find work for the people that where born here let alone all the people coming from other countries i am sick of it all ready i am deperate need of work in alberta to support my family so we dont end up on the street and i cant even get a job working at mcdonalds for crying out load i am very tired of only seeing them working there what about us the people who where born and raised here we dont want to leave out country to find work i think the covernment needs to look at the situation a little closer and lock some of these people out of our counrty no offens to all of them but maby you should GO HOME!!!!!!

Hey, just wanna share my tips from my own experience. I was this close to migrating to Quebec, Canada but I didn’t push through in the end for some personal reasons. I took up French at Alliance Francaise de Cebu. I found their classes very effective. So if ever you need to learn French because you’re going to Canada, I highly recommend that learning center.

    Hope this helps.

whoever would read this message, read carefully from someone currently living here in Canada. Universal health system here is not as good as advertised. I you have a health card in the Philippines, that’s a thousand times better than the situation here. Yes, its free here but you have to wait weeks even months just to get treated by a specialist. Education? Yes, its free up to high school (grade 12 here) but Canadians education means more like socializing. Having graduated from the Philippines, I would say that its hundred times better. I have a good work here but you always need to look at your back in case you would be terminated and that happens everyday. I regret coming here having to drag along my family. Now its my plan to return back home if my home will still welcome me back. So to all of you aspiring to go here, good luck!!

Hey, I’m kind of tired of the cold Canadian winters, so can I emigrate to the Philippines, receive welfare, a job, and a better–warmer–way of life? Or would you all just mind staying where it is you’re at! We’d prefer it that way. Trust me!

    To whom it may concern,

I am at looking at starting a Immigration Consulting business in the Philippines and would like to know how people feel in regards to the above matter of using an agency or applying alone. Obviously applying through an agency does not guarantee quick results or grant special status on the applicant, though, it does provide an element of familiarity in navigating these complicated matters. Please drop me a line at bcam@ for your thoughts as I would be most interested.
